ARLEE — The #MikaMatters movement is gearing up to host an awareness walk across the Flathead Indian Reservation from June 13 to June 16. The event aims to raise awareness about the sudden and tragic loss of Mika Josephine Westwolf and shed light on the disproportionately represented and underserved indigenous families in the aftermath of their missing or murdered relatives.

The circumstances surrounding Mika's death are still under investigation. Reports indicate that her death resulted from a hit-and-run incident, and some news outlets have labeled it a "hate crime," placing blame on 28-year-old Sunny White.

Mika's parents, Clarissa Heavy Runner and Kevin Howard, have expressed frustration with the current investigation, citing a lack of justice. They have conducted their own inquiries, delving into Mika's activities before and after her death, interviewing possible witnesses, and reviewing camera footage from local businesses. These efforts have only deepened their sense of despair.

Amidst their grief, Mika's parents are determined to raise their voices and seek the truth. Their unwavering pursuit of justice has given birth to the #MikaMatters movement, which aims to bring attention to the injustices faced by indigenous communities. The movement seeks to address systemic racism, victim blaming, gaslighting, and the overall disregard often encountered when indigenous families seek justice for their lost loved ones.

The #MikaMatters movement encourages community members to lend their support by volunteering for various roles during the awareness walk. They are seeking shuttle drivers, safety personnel, and individuals who can provide safety equipment and first aid supplies. Donations of water and red dresses are also welcomed, and support funds can be made to support the cause through the website www.MikaMatters.com.

The Justice to be Seen MMIR walk will commence on Tuesday, June 13, and conclude on Friday, June 16, with opening ceremonies and ceremonial finishes scheduled in the following towns:

The #MikaMatters movement urges everyone to come together and support marginalized individuals who have been traumatized by systemic failures and injustices. By fostering collective healing efforts and open dialogue, the movement aims to raise awareness and create a pathway towards justice.
