A Philadelphia prep school was briefly placed on lockdown when police say a student brought a gun to school in their backpack.

PHILADELPHIA - A gun found inside a preparatory school prompted a lockdown in Philadelphia's Frankford section Tuesday morning.

The First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School on the 4300 block of Talcony Street was briefly placed on lockdown around 10 a.m.

Police say a parent got a call from her daughter about a student with a gun inside the school.

A gun was recovered in a student's backpack, then the school was placed on lockdown, according to authorities.

"They sometimes have like a practice lockdown, but I didn't know this one had a gun," Jeremiah Villanueva, a third-grader, said. "I don't get it, how would a kid bring a gun to school?"

Police have yet to release further details about the student or recovery of the gun.

Hours earlier, Northeast High School was also placed on lockdown when district officials say a parent with a license to carry brought a gun into the school.
