10 Best Mods For Cassette Beasts

May 25, 2023

Customize your character, encounter more shiny beasts, or just grab some quality-of-life improvements with these great mods.

Cassette Beasts is an open-world RPG that draws influence from other monster-taming games like Pokemon while injecting its own charm and tactical turn-based battle mechanics. In addition, it features a host of unique regions to conquer and "beasts" to capture, train, and fuse to your heart's content.

As if that weren't enough, Cassette Beasts also supports modding on PC, allowing you to enhance different parts of the game and patch in new content. From adding extra save slots to bonus cosmetics and other quality-of-life features, the best Cassette Beasts mods will give you a newfound appreciation for this indie gem.

The Combined Quality Of Life Patch is an excellent mod to kickstart your Cassette Beasts modding adventure before diving into more complex tools. As its title suggests, the purpose of this mod is to introduce a slew of new settings, toggles, and features requested by the game's community.

Among these is the ability to group stickers by element when sorting your inventory, fast travel to campsites, and view high-visibility icons for monsters that haven't yet been recorded. The list is even longer than that, with each feature designed to smooth out Cassette Beasts’ rougher edges.

Video game history is littered with great titles that had the unfortunate luck of releasing on cartridges or discs that could only hold so much data, thus limiting the number of available save slots. While storage concerns are mostly a non-issue these days, you can still find games that continue this practice.

Such is the case with Cassette Beasts, which maintains the retro gaming tradition of offering just three save files. To increase this number, look no further than Extra File Slots, a much-needed mod that adds seven extra slots to the file menu for a total of ten possible saves.

If you plan on using more complex Cassette Beasts mods down the road, then Mod Utils is an absolute must-have. This is because it serves as a support library containing several useful functions that can be useful when installing other mods.

Some of its features include a unified mod settings menu with automatic saving and loading and a translation patcher for replacing localized strings in the base game. However, the main highlight has to be the Mod Club Station, a new fast-travel destination where you can access dynamic mod NPCs, shops, and locations.

Like many of the best RPGs, Cassette Beasts’ inventory management system can take some time to figure out, especially if you’re trying to be efficient, thankfully, mods like Deluxe Inventory help speed up the process by helping you find exactly what it is you’re looking for.

Once installed, this mod adds multiple new sorting modes to the game's sticker tab that let you search based on Alphabet, Rarity, Element, Move Type, and Random. It also introduces a new button that lets you focus on the first item in your current tab, making for speedy inventory navigation.

One of the best aspects of modding a game like Cassette Beasts is getting to explore a world of new customization options not offered in the base game. A great example of this is Cooler Customization, a mod dedicated to expanding character customization.

Included are four new hairstyles, one new face, and four tops to spice up your character's wardrobe. Additionally, this mod allows you to set clothing colors as your character's skin color and access other previously unavailable customization options.

Extra Cosmetics is another customization mod for Cassette Beasts that's fully compatible with Cooler Customization. Like the previous entry, it seeks to broaden the number of customization options in the game by placing a laundry list of new cosmetic items right at your fingertips.

These range from new masks, heads, and hair accessories to get an entirely fresh look based on the character Clee-o. So, if you’ve ever wanted to don Cyborg under eye lines or a cool Carniviper mask, this mod will let you do just that.

As you progress through Cassette Beasts’ story, you may find your companion partners struggling to keep up with some of the late-game monsters. To tip the odds back in your favor, a mod like Better Partners can come in handy with strengthening your allies.

It does this by slightly raising their total stats by about 30 points each. The effects are immediately noticeable without feeling overpowered and, in many cases, will only enhance your partners’ greatest strengths. With that said, characters specializing in a particular area will still outshine ones with undefined roles.

For a game with so many viable combat strategies, Cassette Beasts is surprisingly strict when it comes to deciding where and when you can view certain menu items, in this case, tape storage. By default, this option is not available from the pause menu.

However, you can change that with the Anywhere Tape Storage mod, which does exactly what it says on the tin: let you access your character's tape storage by selecting it from a list of other options in the pause menu. Sometimes the most minor quality-of life-improvements can go a long way.

The ability to romance other characters is one of many areas where Cassette Beasts sets itself apart from the rest of the monster-taming genre. As fun and exciting as this mechanic is, it's not without its limitations regarding the number of characters you can try and charm.

If you’re the kind of player who enjoys exploring every possible outcome, then the Unlimited Romance mod will let you play the field by romancing everyone in the game at the same time. Just remember to not let your virtual partners find out about each other.

In the world of Pokemon, shinies are regarded as the most rare and highly sought-after creatures one could hope to find. Therefore, it only makes sense that Cassette Beasts follows suit by implementing its own shiny designation, assigning both unique designs and stat spreads to special 'bootleg' monsters.

Similar to Pokemon, the chances of finding a shiny in Cassette Beasts are quite slim, which is where a mod like Obnoxiously Shiny comes into play. In an interesting twist, this mod reverses the odds of encountering a normal or bootleg variant, making it more likely to find a shiny one than a regular one.
